Chloe Mutu in Bali by Aaron Smith
Fresh from Milan, Division’s own Maddy Kane in Clara Giaminardi’s Unbalanced. Can’t wait to see what else is in store in Milan for this beauty.
We were so excited to hear about Neridah’s big USA trip!
Q1. What country did you go to? How long were you away for?
America for 5 weeks.
Q2. Where did you stay?
I used Air BNB and hired out apartments in every city, I found it a lot better than staying in a hotel, it’s much less conventional and you get to stay in some really rad places/ meet people if you choose to just hire a room which we did in LA – we made really close friends with the guy we lived with.. I was in LA, San Fransisco, Texas and New York
Q3. Did you work over there? If so, who did you work with? Photographer, brand of clothes/designer?
I primarily was there for a holiday but when I was in NY I worked with a really great photographer and met with a huge agency over there. It was Fashion week at the time so even being able to meet with an agency at that time was pretty exciting.. Coco Rocha was literally sitting next to me in the lobby of the agency, it was quite surreal. I also went to a show at NYFW which was a dream. It’s crazy how much you can network over there, I met so many people who are pretty big deals in the industry, and studying Marketing right now it has enabled me some stability if I was to move over there which I plan to next year.
Q4. Where else did you go/see in that country? Anything interesting?
In LA we hired a car so we drove pretty much everywhere from the heart of Hollywood to Malibu. We hung around Venice and Santa Monica quite a bit, it’s so crazy there.. The people are all so wild and ‘out there’ it was such an experience. We also got to see drake play at a club.. for anyone who knows me- I’m #1 fan girl on steroids. We drove from LA to San Francisco – I highly recommend the drive, the views are nuts! Rodeo Drive is obviously something you need to see when you’re in LA. We ran into Alexa Chung in YSL, she was very cool and kind. In San Francisco every street and every place is so beautiful and photo worthy. It’s cool going to Haight Ashbury and seeing the real hippie subculture that floats around there. In New york, absolutely everything is interesting. As soon as you step out of your apartment you see so much. It’s the most beautiful up beat city. People are right when they say the city never sleeps. Every night there is something going on. We went out a lot- didn’t really do much tourist stuff in NY.. but thats the best way to be. It’s crazy who you’ll see on the streets. Karli Kloss lived a block away from where we were staying so we saw her out casually walking. We were also staying a few blocks away from where Phillip Seymore Hoffman lived so when he passed away the street was filled with news reporters and police, it was a really overwhelming thing to see. Brooklyn is absolutely awesome, lots of my friends over there live there, it’s got really sweet artsy vibes which we loved. On our last day in NY we forced ourselves to do tourist things and went to Central Park, Grand Central Station and Times Square – so so great! Central Park is has way too much beauty, it’s very hard to take in. I luckily had some friends over there who really hooked us up in the night scene so we did and saw some crazy very “New York” Things… haha.
Q5. Where would you recommend trying to someone who has never been to that country?
I think the places we went to were probably the best to recommend and the most popular. I have a whole list of places to suggest if anyone is planning to go and Julia was to thank for quite a few of them
Q6. Highlight of your trip?
NYC! I cannot wait to be back.
We sat down and had a chat to one of our up and coming models, the handsome Joshua.
Q1. What country did you go to? How long were you away for?
I travelled to Japan for just under 3 months during my university break.
Q2. Where did you stay?
My family and I stayed with my grandparents in a small fishing village at the most western part of the main island of Japan for a week. From there we travelled to the top island of Japan via underwater train and then back down to Yokohama (40 minutes from Tokyo by train) to my aunties house, where I stayed for most of my trip after my family returned to Australia.
Q3. Did you work over there? If so, who did you work with? Photographer, brand of clothes/designer?
I didn’t go over expecting to do work because I thought I would be busy travelling and meeting with friends and family, but when I was in Shibuya (Tokyo) I was lucky to be scouted by stylist Araki Daisuke who is quite prominent in Tokyo street fashion and also by a few hair salons in Tokyo. One of my friends that I made through one of the salon shoots was also a photographer so I did a test shoot with him and his assistant for his website VilaVila.
Q4. Was it a photo shoot? Or commercial? How many days?
Araki-san styled me for Tokyo street fashion brand FAT’s catalogue which was very fun, In one shot I skateboarded down a busy street outside of Shibuya. I was lucky enough to meet the owner of the brand and make friends with the editorial director of one of the biggest skateboarding magazines in Japan (SB Skateboard Journal). Araki-san called me a few weeks later and asked me to model for [DANSHI:CAMERA] eye’s magazine, which does street style and new cameras. It was shot by photographer Taro Hirano out the front of Tokyo tower and was the first time I’ve ever seen Tokyo tower! Amy (my little sister) got scouted in Harajuku and we both modelled for ‘Double’ hair salon in Omote-sando, Tokyo together.
Q5. What was your favourite clothing that you got to wear?
My favourite was probably the clothes I wore for the camera magazine shoot where I wore clothes from Nike, BEAMS (Tokyo), BAPE and got to play with the new FUJIFILM X-Pro 1 camera.
Q6. Where else did you go/see in that country? Anything interesting?
Where do I begin.. I did quite a bit of travelling through Japan by myself. I went to most of the main cities Kyoto, Osaka to see the giant temples and shrines, took lots of photos, Disneyland was cool, hiked to an abandoned hotel in Kobe which was freaky, but had the best view of the city and went snowboarding for a week with my best mate from Australia. I also played a DJ set with a friend of mine in Tokyo and also briefly met Kiko Mizuhara the Japanese vogue model and a few other models from the Tokyo fashion scene. There’s a lot more but I’d be babbling on for ages.
Q7. Where would you recommend trying to someone who has never been to that country?
It’s so hard to recommend anywhere because everywhere was so amazing. People watching in Harajuku was pretty interesting for me because all different sorts of people walk past, anime fans, business men, models, fashion fanatics, tourists.. everything. The nightlife is super fun too!!
Q8. Highlight of your trip
The people and the culture was definitely a highlight. I love Japanese people they are hard-working, respectful, kind people who are really fun to hang out with! Making friends was really exciting also because I got to see and do things I wouldn’t have been able to find on my own or from the Internet. Its definitely a country I would recommend to everyone I just want people to look past stereotypes of Japan, it has such a rich history, everything is so cheap and the culture and country itself is so, so interesting.
Spoken from Division Model Management’s own Director Kirsten Mitchell,
“From the start, I have tried to instill a sense of understanding and pride with young models within our agency – on their personal behavior, character and the correct professional conduct that relates to their images being used in the media. I am proud to say that it has not fallen on deaf ears; after a very grateful young woman told me so. One of our former models, Grace Cobb has pursued her dream in journalism and politics and has written a valuable piece on the importance of having an Agent”.
To read Grace Cobb’s article:
On 22nd February, 2014, we lost a wonderful, kind-hearted spirit. Charlottle Dawnson, 47, a role model to young women all over Australia, tragically took her own life. Charlotte had a long battle with bullying especially surrounding social media and depression as a result of it.
Division Models would like to strongly encourage everyone sign this petition that will be sent to the Australian and State Governments. This petition aims to introduce cyber-bullying laws to tackle serious online abuse. People fail to see that this is a serious matter -not just for children but adults too.

We sat down and had a chat with our gorgeous Hannah Lyne.
1). When did you decide modelling was something you wanted to pursue?
H: When I was a little younger I was never really keen on modelling. I really didn’t think I would be very good. I started when I was around thirteen and did a couple of courses and really started enjoying it. Not just the modelling side of it but really all aspects of the industry. Now I really don’t want to do anything else. I’m incredibly grateful and lucky to do what I do.
First job: 6 months old Pumpkin Patch Model in the Myer catalogue. My only claim to fame.
2). Which designers and creatives would you like to work with in the future?
H: I would love to work with Chris Colls, Byron Spencer (spencernotspencer), Ryan Kenny, Hatsumi Laundry, Nobody Denim. The overseas industry is just a whole other world that I really don’t know much about but I would love to do any kind of work over there. There’s just so many creative people around especially locally, I couldn’t even try and list everyone.
3). Who are your model inspirations?
H: I love Montana Cox, Rachel Rutt, Alexandra Spencer… ahhh this is stopping here, can’t go on (hehe).
4). Tell us a bit about yourself…
H:Such a difficult question. Well I’ve just finished school and I’m taking a gap year (indefinitely). I’m studying part time for a semester at Griffith doing Digital Media but in the mean time I hope to save and go to some beautiful places, and when I’m ready I hope to go and finish studying Digital Media. And at the moment I work at Barefoot Barista in Palm Beach and Borough Barista in Burleigh. I’ve been making a lot of my own clothes, knitting a bit. Swimming as much as humanly possible! And I’m really enjoying taking photos and working with different models. I’ve realised since taking photos the impact it’s made on how I model, just being more aware of your body and angles. And yes, just really enjoying it!
5). What do you love most about modelling?
H: I love that there’s all different people from different departments with a different job that come together with the same or similar concept and make something very wonderful. I’m just happy to be apart of it. Plus the friends and relationships you have with your agency’s and people within it, makes it worth the work.
6). What is something most people don’t know about you?
H: Ahhh well a lot of people don’t know I grew up in Darwin. With the crocodiles, red dirt, flies and the heat. It’s something I would never change. I’m very grateful for my parents to make the decision to live there for a while. It really made my brother and I appreciate our beautiful home and our culture, we really saw the reason most of international tourists come here in the first place. We travelled a lot of the Northern Territory and a bit of Western Australia and out of every other country I’ve been to, hands down there’s nowhere like it. Put it on your bucket list!
