We had a chat to gorgeous Karri about working overseas.
Q1. What city are you currently in?
I am in the amazing city Seoul in South Korea.
Q2. Where are you living?
I am living in a model apartment about 45 minutes from Gangnam. It’s away from the main city rush and is next to a park and close by to the river which is nice. I live with 6 other models from America, Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Australia! We are like a big family and I love having constant company, being an only child back home. We occasionally go out to Agency dinners and explore the city together on our days off. It is really safe and the people are so friendly.
Q3. Who have been working with? Photographer, brand of clothes/designer?
I am on a modelling contract with MDI Entertainment. Each day we go to different castings and then go to our jobs that we book. I’ve already met some fantastic people over here which is what I love about my job. One shoot I got to work with a bulldog called Macho. It was the friendliest dog I’ve ever met. It is also really inspiring when I go to castings and try on so many different clothes and see all the different designs. The overall fashion in Korea is chic, cute and classy. I also did a test shoot was a well known photographer in Korea which the Korean models supposedly pay a lot of money to work with him, so that was a great opportunity I am thankful for!
Q4. Was it a photo shoot? Or commercial? How many days?
I have done a few underwear shoots which were really fun. The last one I did I got to work with Madison (from Division) a guy from Canada, and my roommate who is from America and I previously worked with him earlier on in the week. It was a full day shooting (12 hours from the time I left and got back home) however time went so quick and we had a lot of fun!
Q5. What was your favourite clothing that you got to wear?
At the photoshoot for Kizout (the one with the bulldog) I got to wear Jordan’s with every piece of clothing. They probably had about 15 different pairs which was awesome. I also did a casting for a designer lookbook and the clothes were so beautiful and elegant. The picture is below.
Q6. Where else did you go/see in that country? Anything interesting?
There are lots of different market places which you can go to and shop, eat, people watch and just walk around. Myeong-Dong and Itaewon are my favourite. Itaewon is where all the expats live so there is a lot of foreign influence and basically everyone speaks English there. Myeong-Dong reminds me a bit of Sydney streets. I came across a ‘Cat Cafe’ which is a cafe with 40 cats that sit on your table while you drink your coffee. It was certainly an experience. I have mastered how to use the subway which has been handy as you can get basically anywhere in the city for less than $2 and a quarter of the time.
I also found a French Village which is super cute and has a lot of bakery’s. I am yet to visit the Seoul Tower, the War Memorial, and the aquarium which is massive!
Q7. Where would you recommend trying to someone who has never been to that country?
Gangnam just as itself if quite an amazing sight. It’s very busy, lots of billboards, shops, and action. Sometimes the little hole in the wall shops or restaurants can be your best meal and I have loved trying out different things. Green Street is probably my favourite place, it has anything you could want there- designer and market shops, cosmetics, restaurants (Acai!), and it is where most of the models hang out in their free time.
Q8. Highlight of your trip?
Every day is different for me and I have loved every one of them. When I am working I have a lot of fun and really enjoy collaborating with the designer, photographer, stylist, other models etc. Then when I have my days off I appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given to live in another country and that I’m able to explore and learn so much about it. MDI has been amazing and we are such a family!
